How Building Passport recommends products and treatments, and how you can evaluate every recommendation on its merits.
Our Approach
Building Passport is not a sales funnel. Product and treatment recommendations follow a controlled, transparent, four-stage process. Every recommendation is traceable back to specific evidence, and every recommendation includes disclosure of NanoSeal's commercial interest where applicable.
The Four-Stage Process
1System Candidate Identification
The system identifies candidate treatment approaches and product categories based on surface type, condition data, and known deterioration patterns. For example, a roof with granule loss in a freeze-thaw climate may be flagged for coating or restoration consideration. No products are selected at this stage - only candidate categories.
2Evidence Check
Each candidate is checked against available evidence: documented surface conditions, site observations, climate data, manufacturer specifications, and applicable technical standards. Candidates that lack supporting evidence are flagged with a clear explanation of what information is missing.
3Technical Review
Candidates that pass the evidence check proceed to technical review. This stage evaluates compatibility with the existing surface system, expected performance under site-specific conditions, installation requirements, and alignment with approved technical documentation. Recommendations that fail technical review are rejected with documented rationale.
4Customer Recommendation
The final recommendation is presented to the customer with full transparency. Every recommendation includes: rationale for the recommendation, evidence used in the assessment, any missing information that could affect the recommendation, links to applicable technical documentation, disclosure of whether NanoSeal sells the recommended product, and alternative approaches or products that were considered.
What Every Recommendation Includes

What This Is Not
Building Passport product recommendations are not an opaque sales funnel. We do not hide commercial relationships, omit alternatives, or fabricate evidence to steer customers toward specific products. Every recommendation is documented, evidence-based, and open to customer scrutiny.
If a recommendation leads to a product that NanoSeal sells, that fact is disclosed prominently. Customers are free to evaluate the evidence independently, seek competing proposals, or request alternative approaches.
Scope
Recommendations remain within approved technical documentation and verified site conditions. Building Passport does not recommend products for conditions that have not been observed, for surface types outside the platform's supported taxonomy, or outside the scope of NanoSeal NB's technical expertise.
