Data Ownership and Portability
Who owns what, what you can export, and how your data is protected.
Customer Data Ownership
You own the source data you upload to Building Passport. This includes property records, asset details, surface condition information, inspection notes, uploaded documents and photos, and any other information you provide through the platform.
Your data is your data. NanoSeal NB does not claim ownership of your uploaded information. You retain all rights to your source data, and nothing in our terms or policies transfers ownership of your data to us.
Data Export
You can export your portfolio data from Building Passport at any time, for any reason, without restriction.
- Available formats - CSV and JSON.
- What is included - All property records, surface condition data, health scores, risk levels, priority rankings, and metadata you have entered or generated through the platform.
- No lock-in - Export is available during active use, during a trial, and after trial expiry. You are never locked into the platform.
- Self-serve - Export is available directly from the portfolio dashboard. No need to contact support or request a manual extract.
For detailed format specifications, see the portfolio import guide.
What NanoSeal NB Owns
While customers own their uploaded data, NanoSeal NB retains ownership of the platform itself, including:
- The operational database - The software, infrastructure, and systems that power Building Passport.
- The scoring taxonomy - The surface-type classification system, condition categories, and naming conventions used in the platform.
- Calculation methods - The surface health scoring algorithms, risk ranking formulas, climate exposure models, and capital planning optimisation logic. These are proprietary to NanoSeal NB.
- Generated reports and derivatives - The report format, layout, charts, and presentation structure are NanoSeal NB intellectual property. The underlying customer data in those reports remains yours.
De-Identified and Aggregated Data
NanoSeal NB may use de-identified and aggregated data derived from the platform for:
- Benchmarking - Industry-level surface health trends, average scores by property type and region, common condition patterns, and preservation cost benchmarks.
- Product improvement - Scoring model calibration, taxonomy refinement, platform performance analysis, and feature development.
- Research and publishing - Industry reports, whitepapers, and educational content based on anonymised trends.
De-identified data has all personally identifiable information, organisation names, property addresses, and asset identifiers removed. Aggregated data is combined across multiple customers so that individual portfolios cannot be isolated or identified.
NanoSeal NB does not expose identifiable customer data to any other customer. Your property records, asset details, scores, reports, and portfolio information are never visible to another organisation using Building Passport.
Data Deletion
Upon request, NanoSeal NB will delete your uploaded source data from the production database, subject to reasonable backup retention periods and legal obligations. Deletion requests can be submitted by contacting info@nanosealnb.ca.
